Rt. 1 Community Farm

The Route 1 Community Farm will make farmland and fresh food more accessible to residents in the Route 1 Corridor who lack space and resources for their own gardens.

Together we’ll build toward great food sovereignty through the farm’s educational events, technical assistance, and other resources.

Come grow with us!

Community growers will enjoy free access to:

  • A fenced, 2-acre community farm near the intersection of Route 1 and Mount Vernon Memorial Highway.  The opening is planned for Spring 2024.

  • Up to two - 4 foot by 16 foot ready-to-grow raised planting beds per household or organization

  • Barn with indoor & outdoor community gathering spaces

  • Dedicated space to wash & weigh harvested food

  • Seedlings, supplies, tools & carts

  • Wide walkways and elevated beds accessible to those with mobility issues

  • Information and resources provided in multiple languages

  • Opportunities to sell surplus produce

  • Hands-on farm, garden and nutrition education

Farm beds will be allocated free of charge to residents in zip codes 22306, 22309, 22060 and 22079 who have accessed or are eligible for local or federal food, housing, heating or other needs based assistance. Participation will also be open to military service members, veterans, caregivers and other military connected people in and around Fort Belvoir.  We welcome the broader community to get involved by volunteering or attending upcoming events.
